WHY THIS COURSE?

In this present day, construction professionals should not only acquire technical knowledge. They must also develop various management skills to achieve project goals. Hong Kong Government technical circular (ETWB TCW No. 35/2002) mentioned that “In general VM studies shall be conducted whenever it is perceived that there are likely to be net benefits. In view of the commonly accepted fact that there should be net benefits for major projects and the relatively small cost of a VM workshop, departments should consider the suitability of conducting VM workshops for every major and complex project.  It should be noted that net benefits (which may be in terms of time, cost or quality of solution) is the key consideration rather than the mere size of a project. For this purpose, a major project means one having an estimated project cost exceeding $200 million”.

However, qualified facilitators / co-facilitators are hard to come by in HK.  To enhance the innovative team decision-making management techniques in construction industry, the HKIVM is organising this 28-hour Module I Training Course for those who have attended the registered 12-hour VM training programme organised by the HKIVM. The Module I Course teaches VM in a project-based manner.  Participants will be engaged in “real-time” decision-making using the VM methodologies during the course. WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Module I course is designed for people responsible for making significant decision concerning design and budget for construction projects of any scale in the public and private sectors.  In the past, attendees have come from government departments, construction companies, consultants, developers etc. After completing the Module I Training Course, the participants should be able to act as VM co-facilitators. After practising as co-facilitators, they will be eligible for taking the Module II Training Course to become a listed HKIVM facilitator.

THE INSTRUCTOR

The training will be conducted by Dr. Mei-yung Leung who is the past president of HKIVM.  She has more than 25 years’ practical /teaching experience in the construction industry/education and has participated in a number of prestigious construction projects in HK. Dr. Leung is a Certified Value Specialist (CVS) of the SAVE International in the USA and a Qualified Facilitator (list A) of the HKIVM in HK.
