Don is the President of the prestigious Lawrence D. Miles
Value Foundation. He formed the Value Foundation in 1977 to
support value technology and then renamed it in 1984 with the
permission of Larry Miles to honor him and preserve his legacy.
He is a graduate of Northwestern University, a registered
professional engineer, a certified cost engineer and a life
certified value specialist. He holds the Exceptional Service
Award from the U.S. General Service Administration for his
28 years of service to the Federal Government where he pioneered
the introduction of value engineering into architect-engineering
contracts and created the certification program for SAVE International
to contract for VE talent.
For the last decade he has been a Senior Vice President of
three major portfolios of commercial office buildings serving
as Project Executive in the construction of 5 buildings and
Property Manager for over 9 million square feet of space.
Don has written two books on value, two books on project budgeting,
and countless papers presented around the world. He developed
the first degree accredited university curricula on value engineering
and developed the on-line internet course currently hosted
by the Miles Value Foundation website.
He is a Fellow of SAVE International and in 1997 he received
the Lawrence D. Miles Award, the highest award given by SAVE
for technological achievement.
The Legacy of Lawrence Delos Miles
Larry Miles grew up from his Nebraska roots to become known
as the Father of Value Analysis. Along the way he was a teacher,
a high school principal, a bank cashier and teller, a design
engineer and became the holder of 12 patents for vacuum tubes
and various circuits. This presentation overviews the essentials
of the man. It reveals the traits and characteristics he
displayed and saw necessary to be successful in to improve
he left us, the methodology he created, the tools he used,
relevance today will be explored. Discover
the hidden essence in his message "all cost is for function."
